November 11th every year
we give our respects and give our thanks to those who have served in the U S Army to defend our rights and freedoms and our way of life.
The honor we celebrate on "Veterans Day" began more than a century ago, but the way we show our respect to veterans today is as important as ever.
At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, World War I ended after four years of brutal fighting. One year later, America dedicated November 11 as Armistice Day to celebrate peace and the veterans who fought to make the world a safer place. In 1938, Congress designated Armistice Day as a legal holiday to honor those who fought in the "War to End All Wars." However, in the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became Veterans Day in 1954 a holiday honoring veterans of all wars from the past, present, and future.

California has 1.6 million veterans, more than any other state in the country. These men and women are family, friends and patriots. They are represented across all of California's diverse population and in every aspect of our community. Many have used what they learned in the military to the advantage of all of us civilians. They serve as elected officials and civic leaders, in the field of public safety and as first responders. They are employees and employers who help drive California's world-class economy.
Other veterans are not so fortunate. Many bear the physical and emotional scars of war and service. Many face homelessness. They need help, and California is committed to serving them as they served us. That's why this year we launched the $50 million California Veterans Health Initiative to support veteran mental health and suicide prevention. And this September, in partnership with the Legislature, we took action to develop the Southern California Veterans Cemetery in Orange County and to assist discharged gay veterans under Don't Ask, Don't Tell in pursuing discharge promotions to re-establish their eligibility for veterans benefits in California.

As many societies today keep an eye on the traditional parades, and ceremonies we have enjoyed for decades, let us all realize that the commitment and personal sacrifices made by veterans to defend our way of life demand gratitude and respect every day of the year.
As Americans and Californians, we have no higher duty than to ensure that our veterans are supported, connected, and respected in their communities.
Gavin Newsom said :"Now, I, Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, hereby declare that November 11, 2022, is Veterans Day. On the second day of November 2022".
