Ryan a three-pointer
Ryan drilled a three-pointer as time expired in the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime before the Lakers beat the New Orleans Pelicans, 120-117.
Ryan made only 3 shots out of 10 before sinking into the most important one of his youth professional career in front of an unbelievable crowd at the Crypto.com Arena.
It started with Austin Reeves throwing a perfect pass across the field after a timeout with 2.9 seconds left in regulation.
Ryan caught the ball in the right corner and looked down briefly to see if he was behind the three-point line before successfully lifting to equalize at 111-111.Matt Ryan during the game
"I was glad I didn't go out of bounds or on the [three-point] line," Ryan said. "I was just happy that we got five more minutes to try and get the win."
Ryan had only made 3 shots out of 10 at the time. He didn't miss his team's 11th as the Lakers improved to 2-6 after losing their first five games of the season.
Ryan said: "My confidence is unshakable," "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the past year and a half, I've had two years."
Lonnie Walker IV hit a three pointer early in overtime, and LeBron James and Anthony Davis added six points in the paint to keep the Lakers only six in the overtime session.
Walker led all scorers with 29 points in just his seventh game with the Lakers since joining them as a free agent in July.
Lakers center Anthony Davis scored 20 points, had 15 rebounds and four saves while continuing to fight through a back injury. James added 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists while facing a cold that kept him bedridden for two days.
However, Ryan was the undisputed star of the night. He had quite a few text messages waiting for him after the match. How much exactly?
“I don't know. I don't know,” Ryan said. “This is definitely the biggest shot of my life so far. I don't remember the last time I hit a winning game or sent a game into overtime."
